History
Swedish Open in squash has been played since the middle of the seventies.
During the years we have seen winners like Jahangir Khan, David Palmer,
Stewart Boswell and Ong Beng Hee. Four Swedish players has won the title and they are Fredrik Johnson, Lars Kvant, Jan-Ulf Söderberg and Mikael Hellström.
This is the nineth time Swedish Open will be played on the four glas court in Linköping Sporthall. The first time was 2002 followed by 2003,2004, 2007, 2008, 2009 2010 and 2011. Before that Swedish Open twice also has been played at the local club Linköping Squash Center.
The mens final 2007 was won by David Palmer who beat Alex Gough in the final and the ladies title was won by Margriet Huismann from Holland who beat Line Hansen from Denmark in the final.
In 2008 the winner was James Willstrop, England, who won over Peter Baker, England. The pricemoney that year was 55 000 US Dollars.
In 2009 the tournament once more had the worlds top players entered. And the winner was Nick Matthew, England.
In the 2010 tournament Nick Matthew beat Cameron Pilley in one semifinal and in the other semifinal James Willstrop beat Amr Shabana. The winner for the second year in a row was Nick Matthew, England.
For the third time in a row Nick Matthew, England, won the title in 2011. He won the final against Peter Barker, England.
